Frequently Asked Questions

About the AI Tool

Yes. No sign-up required. No credit card. No data harvesting. The AI tool provides genuine product recommendations with real prices and purchase links. It's free because it demonstrates the quality of advice you'd get from the paid service.

The AI is trained to ask clarifying questions when your requirements are ambiguous. For straightforward product searches, accuracy is high. For complex multi-product systems or unusual requirements, the AI will suggest you contact the human concierge service instead.

Consumer technology broadly: home theater, audio equipment, smart home devices, computing hardware, networking, cameras, displays, and related accessories. It does not cover industrial equipment, medical devices, or highly specialized professional tools.

Conversations may be stored to improve the AI's responses. No personally identifiable information is collected unless you voluntarily provide it. If privacy is a concern, the concierge service operates under strict confidentiality.

Full details on the services page.

Choose a tier. Pay. Fill out a short intake form describing what you need. Receive your recommendation within 24 to 48 hours. Buy directly from whichever retailer has the best price.

For Tech Scout and Ecosystem Architect tiers: if my recommendation doesn't fit your situation after you've received it, I redo the research at no additional charge. This guarantee exists because I'm confident in the process.

Yes. Recommendations and sourcing work globally. For projects requiring physical presence (on-site audits, installation oversight), I coordinate with local specialists or travel as needed.

About Trust and Bias

No. Zero commissions from any manufacturer or retailer. This is the core of the fee-only model. I make money from the service fee you pay me. That's it. Recommending a more expensive product earns me nothing extra.

The fee structure eliminates the typical incentives for bias. I'm not paid more if you buy a $5,000 TV instead of a $1,500 TV. I have no dealer agreements, no affiliate relationships, no vendor partnerships. My only incentive is to solve your problem correctly so you tell other people.

Three things:

First, manufacturing heritage. My father spent 30 years in manufacturing supply chains. I grew up understanding how the factory side works.

Second, direct factory relationships. I have real contacts in Shenzhen, Taipei, and Hong Kong who can source or build things that don't exist at retail.

Third, cross-category expertise. Smart home, audio, video, security, networking, computing. The right solution usually combines knowledge from multiple domains.

About Shenzhen Fixer

I tell you directly within 48 hours. The $100 research fee covers my time investigating feasibility. If the project isn't viable, you're not committed to anything further. I don't string people along.

You pay $100 upfront. I contact manufacturers, get real quotes, assess feasibility, and report back within 48 hours. If the project is viable and you want to proceed, the $100 applies toward the full fee. If not, the $100 covers my research time.

Highly variable. Simple modifications might take 3 to 4 weeks. Ground-up custom products might take 3 to 6 months including prototyping. I provide realistic timelines during the feasibility phase, not optimistic guesses.

About Privacy and Confidentiality

Yes. This is a specialty. Privacy-first architecture uses local processing, isolated networks, and on-premises voice recognition. Your data stays on your property. Nothing transmitted externally.
